Research and Data Gathering Project
 
Purpose:
    * Research and examine a chosen topic
    * Demonstrate an understanding of the chosen topic
    * Develop a way to demonstrate the topic information to others
    * Explain the topic concepts to others
    * Plan, organize, and use a time-line to meet the project deadline
 
Assignment:
    #  Choose an area of interest included in the driver education curriculum that you would like to know
        more about.  Look in your textbook for possible topic ideas.  Use the topic question handout to
        help choose your topic.  (see TOPIC IDEAS)
    #  Compare and/or contrast, at least two concepts/components of the topic area.
    #  Develop a creative and fun way to present your results.  (see OPTIONS FOR PRESENTATION)
 
Requirements:
    # Develop a time line to plan and complete the project.  Complete and turn in the
       periodic reports throughout the semester.
    # Give your project a title.
    # Gather information and put it together to generate your report.  Include references,
       sources of information (books, magazines, web sites, people, etc.).  You must
       have at least four references of at least two different types.  These must be listed
       in your bibliography.  You may use only three internet references.
    # Select a way to present your topic information that will best express your ideas and
       highlight your individual talents and abilities (see Options for Presentation).  The
       choice is yours.  There are no more points for any one method of presentation.
    # Make it neat and commplete.  No minimum number of pages.  You should be able
       to say that, "I have said all I need to say" when you are through.  Verbal presentations
       are limited to ten minutes.
    # Make sure your name(s) is/are included on the final project.
    # If you are presenting an opinion, back it up.  Be able to support/defend it.
    # If you choose to work as a group, you must demonstrate that all those involved have
       participated equally.  No more than three people in a group.
    # You will need to find ample time to work on the project outside of class.  Limited
       time will be provided during class.  One library period of class time only. 
 
Topic Ideas: This list is not inclusive.  It's just a couple of ideas.  Choose a topic that
                   you find interesting and would like to know more about.

Presentation Ideas:  Some ideas, let your imagination go wild.  Do something that
                is fun and you will enjoy.
    Verbal Report: Present the topic to the class in the form of a speech or presentation.
          Visual aides or Power Point are suggested.
    Skit: Perform a skit or puppet show based on your topic, as a group.  Needs to fulfill
           rubric requirements.  Should be 5 - 10 minutes long.  Costumes, props, etc. should
           be considered for use (no automobiles in class).
    Visual Presentation: Present a visual presentation that describes and explains your
           topic (video you made, mobile, poster).
    Musical Presentation: Present a song, rap, or some form of musical presentation
           that covers your topic.
    Research Report: Written paper discussing your topic.  No minimum number of
           pages.
    Other possibilities: Look at other creative ways of presenting your topic.  Must be
           approved.
