According to StateAttendance Laws, legal absences include illness, death in the immediate family,doctor or dentist appointments and authorized absences that have been requestedin advance from the Harrisburg School district. A legal absence is excused.

Illegal absences includetruancy, extended or non-approved trips or vacations, oversleeping,babysitting, housecleaning and missing the school bus.  Anillegal absence is unexcused.

Parents must send a signednote with students after an absence stating the reason for the absence.  If an excuse is not brought in within three days (3) the absence will bemarked unexcused.

Students whoare absent for more than three days must bring a doctor’s excuse.

Truancy Elimination Planswill be conducted for students who have 3 or more unexcused absences.  Failure to attend and commit to the plan willresult in a citation for illegal absence.

Students can be granted upto 5 days of excused absences for educational trips taken with theirfamilies.  These trips must be approvedin advance by the school Principal using the form at the end of thishandbook.  Requests must be submitted atleast 2 weeks in advance.
