Policies and Procedures for HBGSD School Psychologists

•Participate in the CASST process to address pre-referral needs assessment.
•Assist in developing, implementing and monitoring academic or behavioral interventions to improve a student’s level of academic, social and emotional well-being.                                                                                                  
•Administer, score and interpret psychological tests.                             
•Assess academic skills and aptitude for learning. •Determine social-emotional development and mental health status.
•Evaluate learning environments.
•Conduct observations of students in various educational settings.
• Engage in Consultation with parents, teachers and other mental health providers, as needed.
•Evaluate eligibility for special services.
•Write evaluation reports with recommendations for parents and teacher regarding the child’s areas of disability/ areas of weakness.
•Participate in Multidisciplinary Team Meetings.
•Determine social-emotional development and mental health status.
•Provide psychological counseling to help resolve personal and/or family problems that interfere with school performance.
•Work directly with children and their families to help resolve problems in adjustment and learning.
•Assist in the development, evaluation, and implementation of specialized educational programs and/or groups to address the needs of exceptional children.•Provide training in social skills and anger management, as needed.
•Assist in the creation of experimental or alternative learning environments to meet the special needs of students.•Crisis Management services which help families and schools manage crises, such as death, illness, or community trauma.         
•Design special education assessment procedures.   
•Consult with school staff regarding classroom and/or school-wide approaches to behavior and develop positive behavior supports and intervention.
