Twenty years ago the Harrisburg High School of Business and Industry Prep Program, a partnership between Harrisburg High School (HHS) and Florida A&M University (a premiere Business College for minority students) was formed with the mission of “lifting the veil of ignorance to the real world of business and industry” for inner city youth. In the program’s 20 year history, over 200 students have attended 130 of the top ranking colleges and universities across the nation such as Harvard, Princeton, and Howard University.
The SBI Prep Program has accomplished notable achievements during the past 20 years and has been supported by modest funding from local corporate sponsors, but unfortunately the Harrisburg School District has been forced to make painful cuts in its faculty and programs. These cuts, coupled with the retirement of the SBI Prep Program Director and pioneer, Mrs. Clenistine N. Dunson, have resulted in temporarily discontinuing the SBI Prep Program. However, a SBI Planning Committee has been formed to restructure and expand the program to relaunch it in the fall of 2012 stronger than ever. The Planning Committee consists of SBI alumni, parents, business, and community leaders who have accepted the challenge of building a sustainable program that will prepare the students of the district for exciting careers in business.
Mrs. Clenistine N. Dunson, former SBI Director/Instructor, has agreed to serve as a consultant. Additionally, with the re-emergence of the SBI Prep Program we are seeking support from the community through volunteering of time and talents in addition to funding support from the business community to sustain this life altering program. Please join us as we continue developing our youth into tomorrow's leaders. Please download the SBI Case Statement for more information.
