GEAR UP

The Pennsylvania State Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate programs (PA State GEAR UP) Project is funded through a U.S. Department of Education grant to increase the number of  students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education.
 
The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education received the six year grant in 2008 to provided supportive services and programs to the Harrisburg School District students, parents, and educators beginning with the seventh grade class in 2008 and following that cohort to graduation in 2014.
 
Projected Outcomes:
 
  • IMPROVED GEAR UP student academic performance in the Harrisburg School District
  • INCREASE educational expectations for participating students and increased student and family knowledge of postsecondary education options, preparation and financing.
  • INCREASED graduation rate with in the Harrisburg School District
  • INCREASED number of GEAR UP students who pursue and succeed in postsecondary education.
  • INCREASED scholarship opportunities for eligible student with in the Harrisburg School District.
